Hi, new guy here, but close to 30 years in the business in one form or another. I was just wondering about the Michigan Guild, if there are many still participating? Thanks for any info

Hello Harold and welcome! There are still quite a few Michigan based builders posting here but not specifically on the 'Michigan' board of the forum. Most tend to go to the larger attended guitar building boards.

We do have occasional get-togethers and I'm sure that if you participate you'll see and invitation posted.

With over 30 years under your belt I'm sure that you have a comprehensive skill set established that you can share with all of us. Glad to have you here!

Hey Peter,

Good to hear, I just wondered as the last one I saw was from last year....LOL My skill sets are very specific to what I do now, but I still do some repair work, and build a cello here and there. I have ended up primarily an electric builder, Basses mainly, also guitars, mandolins, cellos, violins, Electric Upright's, and the ocassional zither or Dulcimer...LOL I wish I could dabble more in the acoustics, but I just don't want to invest in all the forms anymore...LOL So many guys around here doing awesome stuff anyhow, so I keep a low profile.

Don't know much about larger "luthier" sites, never really investigated too many other than Talkbass and Project guitar, and they are extremely juvenile so I try to avoid the webpages generally. I do participate on TB but have even started shying away from that, they just get old.

I like the looks of this place, and I think I can learn a lot here, as well as maybe be able to contribute something.

Thanks for the heads up, and take care
HJC

Hey Harold, welcome. I've been around here for quite a while, don't do much posting these days but I check in 2 or 3 times a week. There are a lot a knowledgable people here and I've learned alot from them. I've also gone to a couple of the gatherings, great bunch of people. I'm a few miles south of Jackson.

Cheers
Kirt

cool Kirt, I used to venture through the Irish hills area, and used to meet with friends in Jackson at the Bob Evans for breakfast gatherings. Seems like a very cool site, and a diverse group from the threads I have read....LOL
